Received an email Sunday that I was the weekly winner of the Ultimate Safety Package! I have been meaning to order two of them, one for myself during my runs and another for my 19 year old daughter, since she is going out more and more. You just never know when you may need it. Can’t wait to get my package and see what is in it.

Joined a Running Group

Last weekend a local mother’s running group that I joined sometime last year had their first group run. Eleven of us showed up – great turn out for the first run! Our leader was a young mom who is training for the Disney Princess Half Marathon. We did a nice slow 2 mile run – everyone at their own pace. While it was short – it was nice to go out and chat with other mothers. We decided to meet every Saturday at 8:30 at the park and one person bringing drinks and snacks.

Today was a little cool and drizzling – but four of us showed up and we started with a C25K program. We are going to pick a local race and do some shirts.

I am going to continue my Sunday long runs, have to work on getting my two short runs during the week – but am enjoying the short run and the company on Saturday morning.

July already – really?

So while I have gotten better, I am still coughing and feeling congested.  I ran on Monday on the treadmill – didn’t feel too bad.  I haven’t run outside because I feel that between the heat and my chest being so congested – it might be a recipe for disaster.  Even my husband asked me last night why I am not running in the evenings…..just too hot!

Fourth was nice and quiet for us.  James worked, so Ava and I went to Regal Cinemas Summer Movies and finally saw Hugo  – LOVED IT!!!  Afterwards we went to Menchies and enjoyed our froyo outside – it was a little overcast – so it was nice just to sit and enjoy the day off.  We picked up Desi and ran some errands – went home and made pasta salad and when I looked at the clock – it was four!  The day flew by.  I ended my day by sitting outside and reading more of Karen Marie Moning – The Highlander’s Touch – I never thought of myself as the romance novel reader –but throw in some fantasy stuff and apparently I am!  Nighttime finally came and Desi setoff some fireworks, as did our neighbor across the street.  The kids loved it – me, I was just glad that I could walk into my house and go to bed.  Glad I didn’t go to one of the city sponsored fireworks – traffic is just a nightmare getting out of those things.

Work is being handled one day at a time.  We recently had an independent interviewer come in and talk to us because office morale is so low – but then the company goes and does things that just leaves all of us scratching our heads.  Every day I dream of going back home to New York.  Maybe – one day (sigh).

Bad days, and more bad days

It has been a while since I last wrote. I have been sick almost the entire time. Had to go back to the doctor and do another round of antibiotics. She did mention that I would have my cough for a little bit longer. So in the meantime I have been reading. I finished the Blood Fever Series, which was awesome! Thinking about buying the set – either for my Kindle or a hard copy. Speaking of Kindle – I love mine. I have it in my purse all the time, so whenever I have a few minutes, I can take it out and read it. I sat by the pool yesterday, while Ava swam, and loved the no glare. Started reading the Highlander series, also by Karen Marie Moning, its good, but not like Blood Fever, maybe it will get better. Also read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Killer – it was okay, don’t know how it became a movie – definitely not something I would have read and said – can’t wait to see it on the big screen.

At work, more bad news. Was passed over for the promotion. Was told that my work and work ethics were not good – I have never heard any other employer in my 20+ years say anything remotely close to what I was told. Just another day in the F state as my friends in NY say.  I don’t even want to get into who actually got the position.

After three weeks of not running due to being sick, I started running again – on the treadmill at lunchtime – it’s too freakin’ hot to run outside. I did miss it.

But now I have to think about what to do – part of me wants so badly to return to NY. I want to earn a descent salary, be respected at work, work in a professional environment, heck I even miss the commute to NY! But then again, we have our house here. Ava has grown up here – this is all she knows. When I think about Stephen and Desiree’s future here – I get sick to my stomach – there is nothing here for them. At least in NY they have a chance for a future. I am not the crying type – but right now, that is exactly what I want to do.

School’s out for summer!!

School year is over…as I drove Ava to school and we got in line for the drop-off, I got a little teary-eyed. I told Ava this was the last day I would be dropping her off on that side of the school, next year as a fifth grader, she gets to go in through the side of the building. Even James was like where did the time go? Yes, I know I felt like that on Saturday with Desi graduating high school, but Ava is our baby, she was our chance of seeing it all happen again – and it happened so fast! Tuesday I was able to attend the award ceremony. Ava was beaming that she made Honor Roll and the Superintendent’s List with her reading. I know some days have been hard for her, but I told her we would work on her weakness during the summer.

So proud of her!

Desiree looking beautiful as always!

It’s been a hectic week so far, but I managed to sneak in – a walk/run 2.12 in 31:06 at lunchtime on Monday and was able to get a quick run after work on Wednesday, 2.69 in 33:37. It was cloudy and every once in a while I would feel a drop of rain – but can’t decide if I rather run through that humidity or the sun…I am just never happy 😉

Working with the rain

Rain in South Florida – not a surprise.  So, I need to work with it.  Each day I feel a bit better so I continue going to the gym.  On Tuesday and Thursday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and Wednesday I ran 3.34 miles in 40 minutes on the treadmill at 3.5% incline.  I popped in Breaking Dawn on the DVD player and just ran at an easy pace.

While I am feeling better, I have spread my germs to those I love at home.  They are not happy with me, but it seems wherever I go, people are saying they are sick.

I started reading the Fever Series – I like how it started and am hoping that it doesn’t get too out there that I would not be able to enjoy.  I totally love the vampire, mummy, supernatural things, but am not a fan at all of the extraterrestrial material.  It seems like the author is containing it pretty well.  Just finished putting a hold on the second book at the library.  Also on my to read list is Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Killer – heard on the radio it was good.  And it seems that I was mistaken about 50 Shades of Grey – it’s not one I had previously read – so that too will be added to my reading list.

Love kids….not their germs

So, I volunteered two days in one week at Ava’s school and I came away with not only spending quality time with my daughter and some great memories, but also with a cough.  I started running a fever on Wednesday, but mostly at night.  Friday I left work early to try to get some rest, hoping that my body could fight whatever I caught.  But, it did not help – I spent the whole weekend coughing.  James was concerned, he said I sounded as if I was drowning when I was sleeping (in between the coughing fits).

Mother’s day was nice.  Desiree bought me an armband for my iPod and Stephen gave me a Nathan handheld water bottle (warranty included…as he put it – its a pricey water bottle!).  Ava gave me a homemade card and a pair of cream color pumps 🙂  We went to my Mom’s house and she made lechon – it was so good! My father opened a bottle of wine, I only had a little, but I really enjoyed it – James made a point of the name so we can pick it up in the future.

I ended up going to the doctor because by now my ear was hurting….some cough medicine and antibiotics and I am on the road to recovery.  Can’t wait to feel better so I can go out for a run, I really miss it – who would have thought I would enjoy running as much as I am?
