Working with the rain

Rain in South Florida – not a surprise.  So, I need to work with it.  Each day I feel a bit better so I continue going to the gym.  On Tuesday and Thursday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and Wednesday I ran 3.34 miles in 40 minutes on the treadmill at 3.5% incline.  I popped in Breaking Dawn on the DVD player and just ran at an easy pace.

While I am feeling better, I have spread my germs to those I love at home.  They are not happy with me, but it seems wherever I go, people are saying they are sick.

I started reading the Fever Series – I like how it started and am hoping that it doesn’t get too out there that I would not be able to enjoy.  I totally love the vampire, mummy, supernatural things, but am not a fan at all of the extraterrestrial material.  It seems like the author is containing it pretty well.  Just finished putting a hold on the second book at the library.  Also on my to read list is Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Killer – heard on the radio it was good.  And it seems that I was mistaken about 50 Shades of Grey – it’s not one I had previously read – so that too will be added to my reading list.

Hate being sick

So it has been way too many days – like 12 – since I last did any running.  I still feel a little congested, sore, feverish and tired, but decided I needed to do a little something.  So I decided to walk at lunchtime – I did 2.1 in 35 minutes at 4.5% incline on the treadmill.  Not too bad.

It has been pretty quiet at home with all the rain, but we did manage to go to Sawgrass Park and took the airboat ride with Stephen’s friend Jenny, who is visiting from New Jersey. We also took her to Bass Pro Shop since they wanted to do some archery, but they don’t rent out the bows.

At work things seem to be okay right now, just hoping that it works out for me….as I have said before, I believe things happen for a reason…so hoping that things happen in a good way for me.

Love kids….not their germs

So, I volunteered two days in one week at Ava’s school and I came away with not only spending quality time with my daughter and some great memories, but also with a cough.  I started running a fever on Wednesday, but mostly at night.  Friday I left work early to try to get some rest, hoping that my body could fight whatever I caught.  But, it did not help – I spent the whole weekend coughing.  James was concerned, he said I sounded as if I was drowning when I was sleeping (in between the coughing fits).

Mother’s day was nice.  Desiree bought me an armband for my iPod and Stephen gave me a Nathan handheld water bottle (warranty included…as he put it – its a pricey water bottle!).  Ava gave me a homemade card and a pair of cream color pumps 🙂  We went to my Mom’s house and she made lechon – it was so good! My father opened a bottle of wine, I only had a little, but I really enjoyed it – James made a point of the name so we can pick it up in the future.

I ended up going to the doctor because by now my ear was hurting….some cough medicine and antibiotics and I am on the road to recovery.  Can’t wait to feel better so I can go out for a run, I really miss it – who would have thought I would enjoy running as much as I am?

Still feeling kind of blah, feverish, congested chest – not fun 😦  It’s afternoon thunderstorms time of the year here – so I haven’t run outside since Sunday.  Monday I jumped on the elliptical and did 30 minutes – thought my knees would be sore – but they aren’t.   I did manage to run on the treadmill on Wednesday – did 3.33 miles in 40 minutes at 2.5 incline.

Things in the office are not great and it’s really bringing me down.  Not like me to let things get to me – but this really bothered me.  Days like this I REALLY miss home – that is New York to those that don’t know me. I like to believe that there is such a thing as karma and that eventually things will catch up to you….I may not see it, but it comforts me to think this.

Onto positive things – I LOVE my children!  They make me laugh and feel loved – I am so lucky to be their mother.

Finally was able to go out for a run again, but since James had to work late, it was a quick run around the block – 2.22 miles in 26.39 at 11:58 pace running into the wind!! I got a Congratulations! From Lance Armstrong on my fastest pace yet. When I got home Stephen had gone to Fudruckers and bought a one pound cheeseburger for Ava and I to share (with bacon of course) – it was HUGE. I cut it into four pieces and we had a piece and put the other two pieces away for lunch tomorrow.

Fun Day with Ava – the school was having a carnival type day for the kids and I volunteered to help out in Ava’s class. Had fun and stayed all day. Kids were treated to bounce houses, cotton candy, snow cones, music and fun games. I always enjoy volunteering at the school – it has great teachers, staff and the other parents are wonderful too. When the last class left at 1:35, I was done for the day. Not really, but I could have gone home and crashed. Instead we went to Target and remarkably I walked out of there without spending any money. I was looking for the Garmin 405 that is on clearance, but they only had the display. I really don’t need it, but at $55, wish I could get it.

Wanted to wake up early to go for my run, but ended up sleeping in just a tad. By the time I was dressed and ready to go, I did not have enough time to go out and get back in time to take Desi to work. So I headed out at about 9:15, it was about 85 degrees and climbing, it felt like it was 90 degrees. I was able to do 3.99 miles in 51:51 minutes at 12:59 pace. Got another congratulations from Lance on my longest distance. I was surprised at my pace since I did walk a lot more than I had planned on. Quiet Sunday, just spent the day at home.

I did watch Once Upon a Time and can’t wait for next week’s episode!!

Since the last time I ran was last Thursday, I made it a priority to run at lunchtime on the treadmill as it was yet once again, raining.  Whenever I don’t run for a few days, the beginning of a run is not fun for me.  But I was able to do 3.26 miles in 39:39 minutes, including my warm up/cool down walks.  I ran it at a 3% incline (sometimes lowering it to 2.5).  But it felt good.

Still feeling a little blah but watched Glee – can’t believe Rachel did that!  Or Coach Beestie!  I did however fall asleep at the end of the eliminations on Dancing with the Stars…didn’t miss much – huh?

Went down to the gym at lunchtime – and did some cross-training.  Most exciting thing of the day?  The Dr. Oz giveaway.  Since I just got the Keurig Vue – I wanted the Soda maker.  I was able to get on – but I was using Internet Explorer and I couldn’t see the form L  After some research on the internet, I noticed that people were suggesting using Google Chrome – don’t have, but I do have Mozilla Firefox – so I used that and I was able to submit a form for the pillow.  Then I tried for the Sony Walkman – got the form, filled it out and then got the message that they were all gone.  I really dislike that they allowed people to win one in each category, but their party, their rules.  Did I win the pillow?  Maybe – will keep an eye on my mailbox at home and emails.  Some fun giveaways going on in the running community – my wish list of things to win:  Garmin watch, some compression socks, How to Train Like a Mother book, a Sparkle Skirt, bib holder and last, but not least, an entry to a Disney race.   In the meantime, am reading some very fun and interesting blogs and learning more about running each day.

Keurig Vue HouseParty

Another rainy day in South Florida….but it’s okay, since I am cleaning and then this afternoon I will be hosting my HouseParty Keurig Vue party!!!  A few years ago I was actively involved with HouseParty, then I stopped.  A few weeks ago I stopped by the site to see what parties they had planned and saw one for Keurig Vue.  I know tons of people who love their Keurig (especially my friends over on the Disboards!)  and wanted to get one, but it never happened, so hoping that I might get selected, I applied.  We are coffee and tea drinkers in my family, so this would definitely be used.  I received the package a few weeks ago and I couldn’t wait to host the party.

James and I went to BJs to buy some muffins and croissants to serve and I had previously purchased coffee creamers at Publix when they had their buy one get one free, and used a $1.00 off coupon they had.  So all we needed was our guests.

Unfortunately the heavy rains kept some of my guests away.  But those that did come LOVED the Vue and had a great time.  Even the kids had a good time and enjoyed the hot chocolate that was provided.  It seemed that the Donut Shop coffee was the favorite, while I loved that my coffee stayed hot even after I add milk and creamer.

I briefly thought about running, but in the rain?  Nah.  Instead, I settled in and watched Once Upon a Time – am loving this show!!

Field trip time.  Ava’s school was going to Weather day at the new Marlins Stadium.  I was lucky enough to go as a chaperone.   Long and slow ride to the stadium during morning rush hour.  Well, more rain, so we knew that the roof would be closed, I hoped that it would stop and the sun would come out to see the roof retract, but that did not happen.  The stadium is very nice, however the sound system was poor – we hardly understood anything they were saying, so the children lost interest in the presentation.  Schools from all over South Florida were there and the noise level that these kids could make was unbelievable.  Yes, I did cover my ears a few times!  LOL!

The game was okay, the Marlins lost.  However they did score two homeruns, so we were able to see the home run celebration sculpture in action.  Not exactly my favorite sculpture – but the children liked it.

When we left, we walked down the ramps, but all the water was running as well and would puddle at the flat levels, so everyone had wet feet by the time we got to the bus.  Design flaw?  I don’t know, but with all the rain that we get here, someone should have thought about that.

It’s been way too long since I have been to a sporting event and I was mildly shocked at the prices.  $5 for a small bag of cotton candy, $4 for Cracker Jack, $10 for an individual pizza.  The children seemed to enjoy the field trip, and I was thankful to have been a part of it.

Yep, no running today, again.  Felt a little feverish, so by 8:15 I was in bed watching Dancing with the Stars, and honestly can’t tell you at what point I fell asleep.  I do remember listening to Jackie Evancho sing Ave Maria – WOW!  What a voice this little girl has!  Will probably end up purchasing some of her music – will help with those stressful days at work.
